Quick & Messy Alginate Hand Lifecasting With Object

Quick video using alginate to make a mold for a hand cast and an object. I had to use some out of date alginate, just to use it up and thought I would experiment with casting a hand holding an object which was/is a small ball based on a drawing I did a while back.

The video is a bit rough and ready and shows what not to do in parts, for example, pour your alginate powder into water, rather than pour the water into the alginate powder. Find yourself suitable containers to house the alginate in accordance to your project.

Try to release as much air as you can by tapping the mold after pouring the plaster of Paris into the alginate. Go careful when cutting the alginate away from your lifecast to avoid damaging your plaster of Paris cast.

The alginate used in this video is a 3/1 mix, which means 3 parts water to 1 part alginate. The plaster of Paris was mixed to a 50/50 mix, which means 1 part plaster of Paris to 1 part water or 50% water to 50% plaster of Paris.

Fibreglass Mother Mold For Latex Leaf Mold

In this video we make a supporting mother mold for a latex leaf mold using fibreglass.

Ammonite Fossil Fibreglass Mother Mold

Following on from the video on latex molding an ammonite fossil, we make a seven piece mother mold to house the latex mold. This video is a short and brief video showing the process and more in depth videos about molding can be found on the channel.

There are many ways to make molds and this video is showing how we make molds here at present, which is our preferred way – it works for us and what works for one person may not work for another.

The model in this video is a 500 million year old ammonite fossil which came out of the mold in one piece. The mold which has been made from the ammonite fossil is now ready to create replica fossils with concrete or any other appropriate material which is compatible with the latex mold.

Attach Legs & Fix Bolts To Fibreglass Mother Mold

In this video we attach wooden legs using fibreglass to the fibreglass mother mold. We also drill holes for bolts to keep the mother mold secure and in place, to keep the latex mold in shape ready for concrete casting.

Building a two-piece fibreglass mother mold using polyester fibreglass resin, fibreglass matting & MEKP catalyst for the mother mold. Aluminium tape is used for the seam, plus PVA mold release and Carnauba wax for the mold release agent. Part One (0:00) – Make A Fairy Door With Monster Clay.
Make a fairy door using clay. In this video a small fairy door is sculpted from Monster Clay Soft in view of making a slicone mold to reproduce further replicas from the original.

Part Two (18:22) – Pour A Silicone Mold.
Make a silicone rubber mold for a fairy door by pouring measured silicone component parts into mold house to create a mold of a model.

Part Three (25:51) – Casting With Polyester Resin.
The process of casting polyester resin is shown using silicone molds (part two) to pour the polyester casting resin into, to create solid polyester resin casts.

Part Four (32:56) – Casting With Concrete.
In this video, we use a silicone mold, made in part two, to cast a concrete fairy door.

Part One (0:00) – Make A One Piece Brush On Silicone Mold.

Make a silicone mold by brushing on layers of silicone to create a one piece mold. Using Polycraft silicone rubber, catalyst and thickener to create the mold, and adhesive aluminium tape, along with foam core to create base and flange template.

Part Two (11:12) – Make A Fibreglass Mother Mold For Silicone Mold.

This video shows how to make a one-piece fibreglass mother mold for a brush on silicone mold. Materials used: fibreglass polyester resin and MEKP catalyst, plus fibreglass matting.

Part Three (23:32) – Cleaning Up Silicone Mold & Fibreglass Mother Mold.

Cleaning up both the silicone mold and the fibreglass mother mold in this molding video series.

Part Four (28:59) – Casting With Gelcoat & Fibreglass.

Fairy Door | Concrete Cast Painting

Following in the series of sculpting, molding and casting fairy doors, here is a video showing the painting process on a fairy door at Dramamask Evolution. This is the way in which we paint many concrete items here and of course there is of course a vast variety of ways to paint concrete pieces and statuary. This process works for us here and the video is just a demonstration of that process.

Acrylic paints are used in this video, alongside using techniques such as dry-brushing and washes.
